Spring in Bloom in Sandwich, Massachusetts on Cape Cod.

May is a wonderful time to visit Cape Cod, and the Village of Sandwich is the perfect place to spend some time. The weather is great, shops are open, and seafood is abundant.

If you haven’t visited Sandwich recently, come stay for a couple of days. The 1750 Inn at Sandwich Center has lovely accommodations available. After your delicious full breakfast at our Inn, you can take a long walk on the beach and then have lunch at CafĂ© Chew or the Painted Lady. Do some shopping at the Spotted Cod, Summer Cottage, Splash, and Stephanie’s. Look for that antique you have been wanting at the Sandwich Antiques Center or visit one of Sandwich’s many art galleries. And you shouldn’t miss afternoon tea at the Dunbar Tea Room, named one of the top ten English tea rooms in the US.

If museums are your passion, Sandwich, MA is the place for you. Heritage Museums and Gardens is open for its’ 41st season. There you can visit the American History Museum, a labyrinth, and the Hart Family Maze Garden. On Wednesday mornings starting May 19th, you can attend informal gardening sessions on such things as composting, pruning, container gardening, and growing daylilies. Mothers’ Day will be celebrated on Monday, May 10th with free admission for Moms.

Sandwich is also home to the Sandwich Glass Museum. The museums’ permanent exhibits of Sandwich Glass are some of the finest in the world. In May there is a special exhibit entitled My Second Life - A Journey With Glass – Walter Prince.

The Thornton Burgess Museums’ Green Briar Jam Kitchen has two adult jam making workshops in May. You can make you own batch of jam in their 1903 Jam Kitchen. On May 5th and May 8th you can make Strawberry Jam and on May 19th and May 22nd Strawberry Orange Jam. Participants not only help make the jam, they get to take home four to six 8oz. jars of finished product. On May 14th – 16th the Green Briar Nature Center holds its’ 29th Annual Herb Festival. This popular event features an herb sale, exhibits and lectures on the many uses of herbs, and wildflower garden walks. On Friday, May 14th a delightful herb luncheon is served. Paid reservations are required for the luncheon but admission to the festival is free. You can call 508-888-6870 for more information or to make reservations for the luncheon.

Celebrate Memorial Day weekend at the 1750 Inn at Sandwich Center. On Saturday, May 29th the Sandwich Artisans show and sale will be held on the grounds of the Sandwich Public Library. The show features arts and crafts make by local artisans. You will begin Memorial Day with a wonderful breakfast and then experience the Sandwich Memorial Day Parade which passes directly in front of the Inn.
