Cape League Baseball 2012

‘Take me out to the ballgame…..’
It's that time of the year and you can hear the crack of the wooden bats from Bourne to Brewster and from Falmouth to Orleans. On Thursday, June 14, the 2012 season of the Cape Cod Baseball League gets underway; the 147th year for this fantastic summer baseball tradition. The ten teams of the CCBL play a 44-game regular season schedule, plus the playoffs. So, there are five games almost every night from June 14th until the playoffs begin on August 9th. Anyone who enjoys baseball will love to see these games played by the cream of the college crop on classic, local fields. Among these talented players are often future stars of the major leagues.

Map of Cape Cod Baseball League fields.
A few years back, one in seven professional Major League Baseball players had honed their skills on our Cape Cod ‘fields of dreams’. CCBL is critical to many players development because it is one of only two organized summer leagues that uses real wooden bats instead of the aluminum bats that most young players learn the game on. Players who dream of a future in the major league, and the scouts who come to see them play, need to know if they can hit the real thing. Thus that lovely crack of the ball coming off a wooden bat, and not the piercing ping of metal.

The ten teams of the Cape League are the Warehamn Gatemen, the Bourne Braves, the Falmouth Commodores, the Cotuit Kettleers, the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, the Harwich Mariners, the Brewster Whitecaps, the Chatham Anglers, and the Orleans Firebirds.

We have the schedule posted on the bulletin board at our bed and breakfast and can give directions to the closest games to our guest during their stay. Some on our past guest have embraced a local team and now plan their summer holiday around that team’s schedule. For details about the teams, location of the fields, and game schedules see the Cape Cod Baseball League website.
