It may still be cold, but harbingers of spring are everywhere. Yesterday I saw the first crocuses pushing their little heads through the cold earth trying to get some sun. There little purple and yellow faces are certainly a welcome sight.

One of the most welcome harbingers of spring here in Sandwich is opening day for Heritage Museums and Gardens. April 15th is a happy day indeed for us. We visit this beautiful place weekly throughout the spring, summer, and early fall and we are counting the days until we can once again stroll through the gardens and museums and have a bite to eat at the outdoor café.

Featured this year at Heritage will be Painted Landscapes: Contemporary Views. Forty-nine  of the country's best contemporary painters, both established and emerging artists, will be presenting their view of the American landscape in both representational and abstract styles. This is an exhibit that we are really looking forward to.

The 2017 outdoor exhibit at Heritage is entitled Points of View. Featured artists will use an array of materials designed to enhance the viewers' appreciation of the gardens. We always find this exhibit interesting, exciting, and thought provoking. It is a lot of fun walking through the gardens in search of the exhibits.

Not to be missed while you are at Heritage Museums and Gardens is the auto museum where some of the country's best American antique autos are on display, and there is always the carousel to ride while you are there.

Already open and waiting for your visit is the SandwichGlass Museum. The permanent exhibits are always fun to see and the museum features special exhibits throughout the year. There are glassblowing exhibitions every hour. A visit here never disappoints and they have a wonderful gift shop where you can find a special gift for yourself or to take home to a friend.

The Green Brier Nature Center, Jam Kitchen, and Game Farm are just a short drive up historic Route 6A. The Nature Center offers educational opportunities and events throughout the year. You can see the schedule for their Jam MakingWorkshops online and you can see what is blooming in their beautiful wildflower garden.

The Fisherman's View

It may not be warm enough to get a tan on the beach as yet but there is so much to do in Sandwich during the spring and early summer. Just because it is not "beach weather" you will still find lots to do and great shops and restaurants to visit. A couple of new restaurants are on the menu for Sandwich. Fisherman's View opened last year and has quickly become a favorite of locals and visitors. A great burger restaurant is opening next door to the Belfry Bistro, appropriately named Next Door. We cannot wait to check that one out. Take advantage of our lower rates for late April and throughout May to come for a visit.

This year we are offering a 15% discount off our regular summer rates for our returning guests. For new bookings, tell your friends that if they book directly through us, they will get a $15 per night discount. We hope you will pass along our website address and phone number to those you think would enjoy a visit to Sandwich.

We are busy sprucing up the inn and getting ready for our 15th season welcoming guests to our inn. We hope to see you this year. Come for a Visit.

Warm Regards to you all.......Jan & Charlie
